O'Reilly Media Event @ eLiberatica 2009

O'Reilly Media spreads the knowledge of innovators through its books, online services, magazine, and conferences. Since 1978, O'Reilly has been a chronicler and catalyst of leading-edge development, homing in on the technology trends that really matter and spurring their adoption by amplifying "faint signals" from the alpha geeks who are creating the future. An active participant in the technology community, the company has a long history of advocacy, meme-making, and evangelism.

Publisher of the iconic "animal books" for software developers, creator of the first commercial website (GNN), organizer of the summit meeting that gave the open source software movement its name, and prime instigator of the DIY revolution through its Make magazine, O'Reilly continues to concoct new ways to connect people with the information they need. O'Reilly conferences and summits bring alpha geeks and forward-thinking business leaders together to shape the revolutionary ideas that spark new industries. Long the information source of choice for technologists, the company now also delivers the knowledge of expert early adopters to everyday computer users. Whether it's delivered in print, online, or in person, everything O'Reilly produces reflects the company's unshakeable belief in the power of information to spur innovation.

Echoes from the last edition

O'Reilly Media represented by Josette Garcia at eLiberatica 2008

"At the end of the conference, the O’Reilly rep did something that I extremely liked.

They donated all the books that weren’t sold to the four universities present at the conference, quietly, the kind of thing that makes you respect them even more." By Bogdan, eLiberatica 2008 participant

So come and see me at the O'Reilly booth where we can talk about

  • The O'Reilly User Group Programme.
I believe lots of you belong to a User Group of some kind – why not ask the leader to register the group on our programme.
  • The O'Reilly European blog.
Have you got something to say to your fellow techies? Why don't you write on our blog www.oreillygmt.eu, written by Europeans read worldwide. Give me your email address and I will send you an author invitation.
  • The O'Reilly relationship with Universities.
As per last year's meeting, O'Reilly will give the left over books to university libraries to encourage students to read good books. Last year, I believe 4 or 5 universities benefited from the donation.
We also have an inspection copy service for Universities – As an academic you can request O'Reilly books to review as consideration for adoption in your classroom.
For more information on this scheme please email Alice Anderson.

O'Reilly Media

I have been promoting O'Reilly books since the mid eighties when the books were distributed in Europe by Addison-Wesley and then by International Thomson. In 1996, O'Reilly offered me the position of PR/Marketing Manager in the UK and in 1998, I helped create O'Reilly UK Limited which is a sales and marketing office. This office covers Europe (except Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Lichtenstein), Middle East and Africa.
